With virtual beauty, AI and AR on the rise, this week @springstudios shared some very interesting data with our members looking at how brands can ensure they remain engaging within their virtual & live experiences.

Innovative brands and retailers are seeking to enhance the in-store experience and overcome the limitations of social distancing by using virtual technology. AR try-on technologies have gained interest as consumers experiment with these tools, allowing them to experience the “real thing” both in-store and online.

Studies have shown that these technologies can help drive physical footfall with 1 in 3 consumers going in-store after using live consultation tools.

Today marks an exciting day for @harrodsbeauty as they open their first stand-alone store at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex.
.
H Beauty will house a selection of luxury beauty brands including Chanel, Dior, The Ordinary and Huda Beauty, however, the store does not stop at just exciting make-up, skincare and fragrances.
.
Visitors will be able to try and buy products that are not available elsewhere at H Beauty’s skincare stations, indulge in mini facials, test out H Beauty’s virtual try-on mirrors, experiment with make-up at their interactive Playtable or relax at their Champagne bar.

With the recent news that the UK government is no longer allowing VAT exemptions for goods purchased in the UK or at its airports, ports and Eurostar stations from 2021, we question how these changes to duty-free will affect the beauty industry.

Pre-flight duty-free shopping for many travellers has become part of their holiday rituals, stocking up on their favourite beauty and cosmetic products tax-free.

With the beauty industry affected by the pandemic, the move to end duty-free shopping will come as another blow to many of the beauty brands that rely heavily on these sales from British holidaymakers.

New research from @unilever, revealed that screen time from home working could be negatively impacting skin health, with five days in front of a laptop equating to 25 minutes in midday summer sun without any SPF.

As consumers start to seek more natural and sustainable perfumes, there has been a rise in companies such as fragrance giant, @givaudanperfume investing in artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help cater to these needs.

Market research company, Frost & Sullivan found that consumers are increasingly drawn towards COSMOS, Ecocert and Halal-certified natural and organic products, which has prompted “significant innovations” as fragrance brands invest in new technologies for natural and renewable ingredient development.

With 83% of consumers more inclined to choose brands with a better sustainability record, perfume brands are starting to invest in technologies to create eco-friendly and biodegradable raw materials.
