Founder of The Hut Group, @matthew_moulding, has pledged to donate £100 million of the online retailer’s shares along with his entire annual salary to charity following an extraordinary period of dynamic growth for the business.

Matthew intends to give the huge contribution to the Moulding Foundation, which he and his family set up last year and which has recently pledged £5m to support the construction of a new campus at The Seashell Trust, a residential school for seriously disabled children based in the North West. The move, which comes just seven months after The Hut Group owner THG’s initial public offering (IPO), sees him become one of the UK’s biggest philanthropists.

We have partnered with @beautyindependent to produce a spotlight series designed to help aspiring beauty entrepreneurs as well as more established beauty professionals better understand the UK beauty market.

The first of the five-part series will begin by delving into the fundamentals of the UK market and cover the changes brought about by the pandemic and Brexit. Subsequent episodes will examine key retail channels and conclude by identifying the key success factors for brands to win in the ever-changing UK market.

As a reminder, this year we have two exciting additions to our categories. Our grooming category has extended to include the submission of personal care products, shaving and oral care products including dental whitening, facial hair grooming and removal products and deodorant.

The 'Best New Electrical Appliance' category now allows health, hygiene and cosmetic appliances that are mains or battery operated such as hair stylers, home IPL devices, electrical facial cleansers, epilators and facial treatment aids to be entered into the awards.

On Monday 12th April, salons, barbershops, spas, mobile services and hairdressers in England will finally be reopening their doors again.

Close-contact services including hair, brows, nails, and skincare appointments are scheduled to reopen, which will all be carried out following strict government guidelines with the use of PPE, face coverings and stringent cleaning procedures to ensure a safe environment for customers.

We’ve got our appointments booked and want to wish everyone reopening the best of luck, we have certainly missed you.

In a bid to encourage more inclusive marketing, Unilever-owned brand, @dove is offering to pay for their own models to appear in other brands advertisements.

Writing an open letter inviting other brands to use their beauty models from Project #ShowUs for free, at each international casting call, Dove’s models will carry a message: ‘if you choose me, and show me as I really am, Dove will cover the cost of my appearance fee’.

“For over 60 years, Dove has been taking action to represent real beauty – working to shatter stereotypes. We know from research that if women don’t feel represented, it can hold them back from reaching their full potential. @beautybacked first launched last year to offer financial aid to individuals in the beauty sector who were unable to work due to lockdown restrictions put in place by the Government.

Today the initiative has relaunched after being awarded Trust status with the aim to support beauty professionals in their return to work after lockdown has ended.

Beauty Backed’s trustees include skincare expert @carolinehirons, Group Director for Caroline Hirons Limited, Alexandra Forbes, aesthetic therapist and owner of West Room Aesthetics @dija_ayodele, @babtac chief executive @lesleyiblair and MUA @lisapotterdixon, who have collectively released a statement:

“Over the last year, we have witnessed much of our industry struggle to stay open and viable. As a sector representing an 88% female workforce, with 82% of business owners as women, we need to stand together and make a change.

As trustees, we are truly passionate about the beauty industry and are delighted to be instrumental in taking Beauty Backed from a movement to a Trust. Our initial goal is to support as many beauty professionals as possible to get back to work.”
