Apart from supporting farming and protecting animals, The Soil Association is also the UK’s largest organic certification body. They have two primary certifications for cosmetics: COSMOS Organic and COSMOS Natural.

“The Soil Association is the charity joining forces with nature for a better future:
A world with good health, in balance with nature, and a safe climate.”

– The Soil Association

COSMOS Organic

The gold standard of organic certifications, having this Soil Association logo on your products tells consumers that at least 95% of all ingredients are organic. Furthermore, it says there was no animal testing in the production process, and the product does not contain genetically modified ingredients, parabens and phthalates, and synthetic colours, dyes, or fragrances.

COSMOS Natural

Similar to the organic certification, this logo guarantees that the product does not contain any controversial chemicals, parabens and phthalates, genetically modified ingredients, and synthetic colours, dyes, or fragrances. The natural certification also ensures that animal testing was not involved in the creation of the product. The key difference between the two certifications is that for COSMOS Natural, the product does not have to contain any organic ingredients. As a result, it is better suited for items with high percentages of ingredients that cannot be organic, like salt, water, or clay.
