The cosmetics, beauty and beauty services industry is one of the largest employers in the UK, especially of women, with one in every 60 jobs being directly or indirectly generated. The industry has an annual value of approximately £27.2bn (2018) to the UK economy and Chancellor Rishi Sunak recently indicated that he wishes to ‘recognise and support’ the industry. Many roles in the sector are technically specialised, for example in formulation chemistry, process engineering, product development and regulatory, but there is also a great track record in business creation, leadership and marketing.
Cosmetics Cluster UK Ltd is a ‘network of networks’, facilitating collaboration and acting as a vital point of contact for the cosmetics and personal care products sector in the UK.
​CCUK have worked with CEW UK, The Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS), Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association Ltd (CTPA), CATCH, London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT), Croda, Arthur Edwards, Estée Lauder Companies to create their second “Education and Skills Survey”.
The survey is anonymous and aims to understand the role that formal education and skills training played in our career choices and to learn how this influenced our career journeys. Cosmetics Cluster UK (CCUK) will use the results to help improve career signposting, both into and within our industry, and define a strategy for doing this. Data collected will initially be shared at SCS Formulate (Gill Westgate will present at the 10-10.30am Inform sessions on 16 & 17 November www.scsformulate.co.uk) and then published.
The survey has 25 questions and will take around 15 minutes to complete. It aims to reflect the views of everyone working in the industry across all roles and levels so please share with your colleagues in the cosmetics, beauty and beauty services industry!
