WHY?
Men and women are different. So is their skin, which tends to have more sebum as a result of their testosterone production. They also shave (sometimes), which creates more sources of irritation and sensitivity. While unisex brands are a “thing” right now, they don’t do justice to the differences in our skin types.
HOW?
- An elevated approach to men’s skin care which respects the notable differences in their skin.
- Keeping it simple with just three products to use day and night.
WHO?
Established in 2008 by board-certified plastic surgeon Nina S. Naidu, MD FACS, anokha layers natural botanicals and actives with medical expertise to create award-winning and clinically validated products that are as sensory as they are restorative.
“My approach to skincare developed from the increasing need for botanical-based ingredients in clinical products. Briefly, the incidence of contact dermatitis is increasing rapidly, particularly in North America, where allergens are not well-regulated.
In my own surgical training and practice over the past 25 years, I have witnessed an increasing number of significant reactions to standard topical preparations, including Bacitracin and Neosporin (over the counter antibacterial ointments), Mastisol (surgical glue for dressings), and even some sutures. The increasing incidence of reactions extends to skincare as well. So, while I started the skincare line with natural ingredients based on patient requests in 2008, “clean” beauty became trendy in the 2010’s, and now in the 2020’s is becoming increasingly necessary.
At anokha we firmly believe that men deserve their own specialized skin care. While some products will work well for both genders, products for men must be formulated very mindfully, with great attention paid not only to the ingredients included but also the concentrations.
Regardless of how you identify, we think it’s important that you have the tools you need to select the skincare that will work best for you. Keep in mind that if you’re taking estrogen- or testosterone-based supplements, your skin will reflect that, too. That being said, we recommend that you select your skincare based on the gender of your skin, which may or may not correlate with your gender at birth.” Dr Nina S. Naidu, founder of anokha
