The Eve Appeal is dedicated to saving lives through the prevention and early diagnosis of the five gynaecological cancers. CEW UK is proud to have been supporting The Eve Appeal since 2018, alongside other founding partners, Tesco & Harvey Nichols and a leading line-up of renowned brands dedicated to making a difference by donating 10% of their sales of participating products during the month.
Throughout May, they’re inviting everyone to Get Lippy alongside some of the most recognisable names and brands in beauty. This powerful campaign raises awareness of womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval, and vaginal cancers through fundraising, education, and outreach, with the goal of stopping these cancers before they start.
Key facts reveal an urgent need for awareness:
-
Knowledge and conversation around the five gynaecological cancers remains alarmingly low
-
Every day in the UK, 60 women and people with gynae organs are diagnosed with one of these cancers, and tragically, 21 die daily
-
Only 3% of people can name all five gynaecological cancers, and just 1 in 6 can name even one
-
1 in 3 people have delayed seeking medical advice for a gynaecological symptom
-
1 in 3 report feeling anxious or uncomfortable discussing gynaecological issues with a doctor
-
1 in 4 have felt dismissed in a gynae-related medical appointment, and the same number have avoided going due to embarrassment
-
Nearly two-thirds said they would feel more at ease seeing a female GP. Confidence is also improved when seeing a GP with a women’s health focus, or one with whom they’ve had a positive past experience
-
1 in 4 said they would be more likely to raise concerns if the GP prompted them with simple, open questions like “Is there anything else bothering you?”
The Get Lippy campaign is encouraging everyone to speak up about gynaecological health—starting honest conversations, challenging stigma, and dismantling taboos. We all have a part to play in ensuring people understand the signs and symptoms of the five gynae cancers and feel confident seeking support without shame.
