The 7 Virtues, the Sephora-exclusive brand and clean fragrance pioneer is proud to announce that it is now a certified B Corp, becoming the first B-Corp fragrance brand at Sephora.
With this certification, The 7 Virtues has joined the ranks of purpose-led businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. This accomplishment validates this disruptive indie brand that began with one mission – to build peace by supporting farmers in war torn nations through sustainable sourcing. The 7 Virtues has grown into a top-selling aromatherapy clean brand that continues to build peace by advancing period equity, ensuring women have a seat at the decision-making tables.
“When I launched The 7 Virtues out of my garage on my visa card in 2010, there wasn’t a playbook or a roadmap for us pioneers in this space, we didn’t even have words to explain social enterprise or clean beauty, we simply did what felt right and what wasn’t being done at the time,” says Barb Stegmann, CEO & Founder of The 7 Virtues. “Obtaining the B Corp certification validates our ethos and our business for not only being accountable for our profit, but how we contribute to the greater good.”
To become B-Corp Certified, The 7 Virtues had to pass B Lab’s rigorous evaluation, which involves extensively reviewing the environmental and social impact of the company. This is based on the B Lab’s 5 pillars of governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers, and evaluates factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. The 7 Virtues will continue to be held to a high standard, undergoing a recertification process every three years to maintain its status.
The 7 Virtues is also the first B Corp-certified perfume on Scentbird, the popular perfume marketing platform, on March 8th, in honour of International Women’s Day. “I am thrilled to be joining the board of a company that cares as much about its customers as it does social responsibility and the environment” says Allison Slater Ray, New Business Development Consultant at Scentbird. “You don’t see many brands with the B Corp certificate because the verification process is not easy; for such a small (but mighty) team to be the first B Corp certified perfume at Scentbird and Sephora is a testimony to why The 7 Virtues punches far above its weight with consumer love.”
March 8th, The 7 Virtues is also launching its second skin perfume, Amber Vanilla with partial proceeds going to Days for Girls to advance period equity.
Founded in 2010, The 7 Virtues was born from a peace mission to ‘Make Perfume Not War’. Inspired after her best friend was severely wounded in Afghanistan as a captain in the military. Today, the company has evolved into an aromatherapy clean perfume brand that sources sustainable oils. Their focus on ending war is by empowering women and girls by ending period poverty at home and around the world. The WONDER – BALANCE – TRUTH – COURAGE – JUSTICE – WISDOM – BEAUTY company has partnered with Days For Girls, an international organization that advances menstrual equity, health, dignity and opportunity for women and girls, transforming periods into pathways.
