As CTPA’s celebrates their 80th Anniversary in 2025, the Report highlights CTPA’s achievements in 2024 and breadth of work for both its members and on behalf of the wider cosmetics and personal care industry in the UK.
2024 was an exceptional year for CTPA and the UK. A General Election year, it marked a clear shift in CTPA’s Advocacy work with their first ever Manifesto raising the profile of CTPA’s key asks in the name of the UK cosmetics industry, evolving into the CTPA Agenda for Government, launched in the House of Commons at the end of 2024.
The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) Annual Report 2024 outlines the organisation’s strategic initiatives and achievements over the past year, focusing on regulatory advocacy, scientific advancement, sustainability, and industry support.
🧭 Strategic Advocacy and Industry Representation
CTPA has actively engaged with UK policymakers to advocate for a dedicated strategy for the cosmetics and personal care industry. This includes promoting the industry’s essential role in the economy and daily life, emphasizing the need for high regulatory standards, and supporting innovation in areas such as sustainable packaging and animal-free safety science. The association’s Manifesto, launched ahead of the 2024 General Election, encapsulates these key asks, urging the future government to recognize and support the sector’s contributions.
🔬 Advancements in Science and Regulation
The report highlights CTPA’s commitment to science-led policy, including efforts to promote non-animal methodologies (NAMs) for safety testing. CTPA has organized seminars and collaborated with dermatologists to enhance cosmetovigilance. Additionally, the association has provided training on UK cosmetics regulation and developed resources to assist companies in navigating regulatory changes post-Brexit.
🌍 Sustainability and International Engagement
CTPA has continued to prioritize sustainability, hosting a Sustainability Summit and collaborating with policymakers on issues such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging and UK REACH. The association has also engaged in international dialogues, sharing expertise with global counterparts and promoting industry provisions in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
💼 Industry Support and Economic Impact
The UK cosmetics and personal care industry remains a significant economic contributor, adding £24.5 billion to the nation’s GDP and supporting 550,000 jobs. CTPA’s membership encompasses 85% of the industry by value, including multinational corporations and SMEs. The association continues to offer expert advice, training, and resources to support members in adapting to evolving market and regulatory landscapes.
