TFS and CPL Aromas have released The Fragrance Futures Index 2026, exploring the consumer, cultural and formulation forces shaping the next era of fragrance.
The report finds that fragrance is shifting from trend-led novelty to a more structured category, where consumers use scent to organise identity, mood, function and occasion. Rather than a single signature scent, many are now building “scent systems” to reflect different moments and needs.
Discovery is also changing, with consumers arriving through search behaviour, creator language, gifting occasions and growing ingredient curiosity. Fragrance choices are becoming more intentional, with increasing focus on performance, layering and use-case.
The report highlights an opportunity for brands and formulators to simplify this complexity by creating clearer fragrance pathways and more versatile scent design.
