For the 2021 CEW Beauty Awards, we have expanded our Grooming category to include the submission of personal care products, redefining the category to 'Best New Grooming or Personal Care Product'.

With grooming and personal care closely interlinked, this category is open to personal health, hygiene, shaving, oral care including whitening products, facial hair, deodorant and general ‘grooming’ products.

Yesterday @borisjohnsonuk announced a 4-step roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions. Step 2, which could begin from mid-April, includes the reopening of personal care businesses, hair and beauty salons and spas across the UK. Saunas and steam rooms are unable to re-open until mid-May.

In the ‘COVID-19 Response Spring 2021’ report the Government acknowledged the economic power of the beauty and hair industry and the impact that lockdown measures have had on its workforce.

With the end in sight, we want to remind you to continue to support campaigns such as @saveoursalons, #beautyonthebrink and @nhbfsocial who are fighting for a temporary reduction in VAT and a relief fund on behalf of our industry to counter the financial impact that COVID-19 has caused.

We have launched a much-requested category for the 2021 CEW Beauty Awards; Best New Electrical Appliance.

As beauty works in harmony with technology, this category is open to health, hygiene and cosmetic appliances that are mains or battery operated such as hair stylers, home IPL devices, electrical facial cleansers, epilators and facial treatment aids.

Unlike our other categories, no samples are required. Showcasing these products at the Product Demonstration Evening is a criteria of entry and we recommend brands entering this category to submit a video guide on how the appliance works.

All products or appliances entered into the category must have been launched within the last 2 years i.e. after 31st December 2018.

Last week, we welcomed Lynne Barcoe, Co-Founder of specialist marketing agency, @the_loopgroup, @chris.ashfordreid, General Manager of Tom Ford Beauty and @outspokenbeautynicola, beauty broadcaster and founder of the Outspoken Beauty podcast for a session on how the pandemic has impacted consumer buying habits and the power of peer-to-peer marketing.

The panel discussed the importance of authenticity and the impact that genuine reviews and recommendations from friends and family have on consumer purchases. When surveyed, 9/10 people said that they are more likely to buy a beauty product that had positive reviews and alternatively, 68% of those surveyed would not click on the product if there were negative reviews.

For every post shared that tags @lorealpro and #HAIRTHELOVE2021, L’Oréal Professional Products will donate to @hbcharityuk and @Haircuts4Homelessuk, so make sure to share the love and help to support our salons this Valentine's Day!

The campaign aims to encourage consumers to acknowledge and celebrate their hairdresser by sharing a specially created social media tile and declare who their ‘Hair Belongs To...’ and show their support by tagging their hairdresser and salon.
