CEW was proud to honour some of the beauty industry’s leaders at its 15th annual Achiever Awards, held last night in the packed ballroom of the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in front of an industry audience, family and friends. Each Achiever was selected by the Board of CEW and the Members’ Achiever voted on by over 1,100 members. The recipient of the CEW Digital Achiever Award sponsored by Google was chosen by an independent panel of experts.

2016 CEW LIFETIME ACHIEVER AWARD Terry de Gunzburg, By Terry
The Lifetime Achiever Award is presented to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the industry throughout their lifetime. This year’s winner, Terry de Gunzburg has a name that is synonymous with luxury beauty. A makeup artist turned Creative Director at Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, Terry is responsible for creating Touche Éclat – a cult favourite among top makeup artists, models, celebrities and women everywhere. Terry went on to create her eponymous By Terry line, a pioneering make up range designed to enhance natural beauty.
Terry expertly combines glamour, innovation and science to create products that become absolutely essential to their users. Lauded the ‘Steve Jobs of makeup’ by Forbes magazine, it was a pleasure to name her the 2016 CEW Lifetime Achiever. Catherine Bossom, Sales Director of L’Oréal Luxe presented Terry with her much-deserved award.
2016 CEW SPECIAL INDUSTRY AWARD Ian Marshall & Gail Bojarski, Benefit Cosmetics
The CEW Special Industry Award is presented to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry and the advancement of individuals in their careers. This year the honour went jointly to Ian Marshall and Gail Bojarski, of Benefit UK. Known in the industry as ‘Mr & Mrs Benefit’, Ian and Gail first met and became friends whilst working at the Estée Lauder group. They each wanted to create and run and brand together and when they spotted Benefit Cosmetics on a trip to New York they knew it would resonate with British beauty buyers.
Their instincts were most definitely right, with Benefit growing to become one of the biggest beauty brands in the UK breaking multiple industry records along the way. The growth and successes of Benefit UK are in no small part down to Ian and Gail’s keen eye, passion and personality. It was an honour for Sarah Harbon, Sales Director UK of Benefit Cosmetics to present Ian and Gail with their Special Industry Awards.

Sarah Chapman, Sarah Chapman LondonSarah Chapman has over twenty years’ experience and advanced training in cosmetic science, making her one of the leading names in British skincare. Sarah was presented her Achiever Award by Alison Loehnis, President at NET-A-PORTER.COM and client and long-term supporter of Sarah.
Ruth Crilly, A Model RecommendsA model by trade, Ruth turned her hand to writing six years ago when she launched her beauty blog, A Model Recommends. Sharing the expertise she had gathered from a decade of modelling, Ruth blogs about her genuine interest in skincare, cosmetics, diet and body maintenance. Now a full-time blogger, mother and co-founder of Colab Dry Shampoo, Ruth is an authority on all things beauty, well-respected and admired with readers and those in the industry. Ruth accepted her award from Dominic Smales, CEO and Founder of Gleam Futures.
Annie Murphy, Boots UKAnnie Murphy is a true leader in the beauty industry, combining business prowess with a love for all things beauty. Annie joined the beauty industry just five years ago, having worked at Tesco, Birds Eye, Pepsi and more previously. Her ultimate passion for beauty brought her to Boots where she’s put her business expertise to great use. Annie champions everyone’s right to feel good and has created strong strategic partnerships in her current role, ensuring that Boots present a beauty offering based on impartiality, advice and the best variety. Margaret Attwooll, General Manager, Parfums Christian Dior spoke warmly of her dear friend Annie and was proud to present her with her award.
Alison Young, QVC UKAlison Young is one of the most respected and qualified experts in the beauty industry. She has been at the forefront of customer care, bespoke prescriptions, treatments and makeovers for more than 30 years. As a trained therapist and makeup artist she has been treating and advising royalty and A-listers for decades. Alison has been at the forefront of QVC Beauty for 22 years. She has watched as the number of brands has grown from just a few, to the hundreds currently available. She takes the approach that her job is to cut through the claims and find the unique story, innovation & ingredients that differ to what’s already on the market. Dermot Boyd, CEO of QVC UK, friend and colleague of Alison, presented her with her well-earned CEW Achiever Award.
2016 CEW MEMBERS' ACHIEVER AWARDAnna-Marie Solowij, BeautyMART
The CEW Member’s Achiever Award is a very special accolade as it acknowledges peer admiration. Recognising a rising star in the beauty industry, the Members’ Achiever Award is chosen by fellow CEW members. This year, the award was given to Anna-Marie Solowij, co-founder of BeautyMART.
Anna-Marie is an award-winning beauty journalist with over 25 years’ experience writing and styling for magazines including Marie Claire, ELLE and from 2002, British Vogue, where she helmed the prestigious title’s beauty department for six years. Inspired while writing a long-running column for the FT, she proposed a more editorial approach to beauty retail that broke brand rules and price barriers. The result was BeautyMART which she co-founded with Millie Kendall in 2011. Jane Henderson, Global President of Mintel revealed Anna-Marie as the chosen winner.

This award celebrates those who use digital platforms to innovate and evolve the beauty landscape and the very fitting winners are Fiona McIntosh and Dharmash Mistry, Co-Founders of blowLTD.
Fiona and Dharmash have shown real prowess in the digital remit, launching blowLTD, the on-demand beauty service. Serving time-poor women, blowLTD brings beauty to the consumer via an app. In a short space of time, Fiona and Dharmash created the concept, gathered a high-quality team of professionals, launched the platform and turned blowLTD into London’s number one app based beauty service platform.
