Courageous Conversations with Janet Tarasofsky
On Tuesday 8 March, CEW welcomed Communications Expert and Award Winning Public Speaker, Janet Tarasofsky, to speak to a sold out audience about how effective communication can move business forward. With 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry, Janet knows the importance of great communication and has turned her attention to helping businesses grow through teaching better communication strategies.
Janet says her method of communicating leads to ‘Courageous Conversations’, pro-active discussions that lead to real progress. She claims that expressing yourself in this way will help deliver messages with more confidence and greater impact.
CEW members were given an insight into what it is to be a courageous communicator and tips on how to properly express themselves. The key to having a courageous conversation lies in four simple steps:
* Diagnose – be aware that there is a problem at hand and think about what you want to achieve from this conversation. Be sure to listen and engage with those around you and consider ‘why is this important to you’* Adapt – tailor your approach to suit the people you’re speaking to. Generally people can be categorised into one of four personality types, each responds differently and needs to be talked to as* Raise the Bar – challenge perceptions and accept that everyone thinks differently. Realise that you are not always right * Essential Tools – use tact when communicating with others, recognise efforts and acknowledge different points of view
